Personnel Resilience

In class Wednesday my group discussed Personnel Resilience. This topic is something that I feel strongly about and have a strong sense of personnel resilience. For pre-work my group assigned a TedTalk and test to measure personnel resilience. Often times TedTalks are long and challenging to follow but the one we watched was interesting and motivating. The speaker discussed challenges that she had to overcome to fulfill her dream of becoming a news reporter for CNN. On her way to becoming reporter she talked about the four steps she used which were; Trust your struggle, do not believe in competition but creating what we want, To give, and Success comes when opportunity meets preparation. These steps are key to building personnel resilience.

On the test I scored a 92 which is very high personnel resilience and I found this to be true. When I am placed in different situations I feel strongly in keeping my emotions in check and also comfortable in confronting someone if I feel they are wrong. Personnel Resilience is built over time from situations and relationships. The saying "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is something I find myself being more realistic every day. We need to roll with the punches and use the last to work towards the future.

Individual Creativity

In class on Monday we discussed individual creativity, a topic I never really thought about. The presentation discussed two major topics, Brainstorming and Mind Mapping, both that are often over looked. Before the presentation I though i had a good understanding of Individual Creativity, but there is more than just what I thought. When I originally thought of creativity I thought of getting from point a to point b in a unique way. Individual Creativity isn't just the method of getting there but building relationships with similar ideas. Both methods discussed in class help us to build those relationships.

Brainstorming is something I find myself doing constantly but never even realized it. Brainstorming is a way in a relaxed manner to come up with ideas and eventually develop a plan to follow through with it. This method can be as simple as talking with a roommate or friend about an idea or event that you are thinking about. After coming up with basic ideas the conversation switches to what works verse what doesn't. Using this method doesn't involve a lot of work and can help to set the formation for what is to come. I feel brainstorming is an activity that is beneficial for any situation and will continue to do it.

Mind Mapping is an activity that I don't find myself doing often and is rather confusing. The idea is to show the relationships of ideas in a web. This technique involves many branches that feed off of simple ideas. When I face a situation, I don't find myself going to this technique to develop ideas. This doesn't mind the idea doesn't work but my brain doesn't operate in the method needed to develop a full web.

Personality Traits

For this blog I chose to reflect on class Monday and the personality tests we had to take for class on Monday (February 5th). The two tests were the DISC and BIG Five, both offering a variety of questions about one’s self. Taking these tests can really make one think about how the act in particular situations. Because these tests are self-reported I believe that the attitude of the person when taking the test does have an impact on results.

My results from the BIG Five are as followed;
·      Open-Mindedness; prefer traditional and familiar experiences.
·      Conscientiousness; You are neither organized or disorganized
·      Extraversion; You are extremely outgoing, social, and energetic
·      Agreeableness; You find it easy to criticize others.
·      Negative Emotionality; You tend to become anxious or nervous.

I personally felt that my results were similar to how I view myself except for the open-mindedness. I do agree that I like familiar experiences, but my score was lower than I expected, I know this to be a little skewed.

My results from the DISC are as followed;
·      Dominance comparatively high
·      Influence comparatively high
·      Steadiness comparatively low
·      Compliance comparatively low

This test seemed to give more realistic results.

Both tests challenged me to think about myself in different situations and also to find the hard truth. Going forward I will look to change my results to be more compliant with others and to work to keep my mood in check.
